Day 164 - Lisa

It's my birthday today!  49!  Came home to homemade enchiladas, beans, rice, salad and salsa.  So good, thank you mama.  Got flowers my Tia Chickie and my mom also made me crack cookies that came out kind of flat in the new oven, so she made it a cake instead!  BTW the beans tasted so good in my Grandma Emily's old bean pot.  My mom's had it forever and I suspect I will too.  ;>

Day 163 - Sis

Starting to unpack kitchen wares and finding a large pot put me in the mood to make stew.  On the gas stove, a familiar cooking pot simmering with the scent that reminds me of home.  Oh but I find it's all starting to feel more comfortable in these newer surroundings now that we're in a our house.

Day 163 - Lisa

I think the neighborhood will be happier knowing the first house into the hood is looking a tad better.  We got a long way to go but definitely cleaned it up.  Now to get rid of those green window panels.  Trying to convince the Mother we should do black window panels with a burnt orange door.  REPRESENTING SF  LOL!

Day 162 - Lisa

The Yahoos also took out the retaining wall so pray we don't have a mini-mudslide on the side of our driveway and garage this winter.  <sigh #3>

Day 162 - Sis

As Lisa has reported we had plants put in the yard recently. I've always loved hostas but could not get them to grow in the area we're from in California.  Here in Georgia's climate they seem to thrive. It looks like oneeya loves one in particular, she favors this spot to relax in during the early afternoon. Well okay, it does face the tree the squirrels are in at that time and in her direct sight line.

Day 161 - Lisa

Loving our newly painted cabinets!  Brightened the whole room up!

Day 161 - Sis

I have heard after a six months to a year you should throw out your spices, so guess three years in storage would be really pushing it. Sigh, some were only a half teaspoon empty.  Goodbye all you wonderful flavors and $$$$$s.

Day 160 - Lisa

We got a new microwave, I guess I forgot that it was a tad more powerful than the old one in the apartment.  I'm doing a lot of sighing this week.  <sigh>

Day 160 - Sis

So Lisa and I are sitting at the table on a beautiful Sunday morning, having coffee and talking when a loud cracking noise gets our attention. Holy smoley, a branch about seven feet long broke off the top of a tree and hit the ground hard.  This only confirms my fear of waking with a tree in my bedroom or it's a warning about all those remaining cardboard boxes we have in different rooms. Yes that's me whimpering.

Day 159 - Lisa

She thinks she is BIG stuff on her stairs!  She's in the middle of the action but out of the way.

Day 159 - Sis

As good as oneeya is, she does have a flaw in her brain.  When she sees open space she ruuunnnns!  I remember reading that in her folder when I adopted her but figured once she felt secure she would be cured. Hah, so I'm not going to pursue a career as a dog psychologist. >:-(  Until the gate lock can be repaired this trash can, filled with yard clippings and branches will stand guard.

Day 158 - Lisa

The yahoos before us bought plastic fans.  So when I went to dust I disabled my fan.  <sigh>

Day 158 - Sis

My sister, Chickie, is a regular contributor to our salami cravings and whatever other favorites we can't get here.  This time she added the set of kitchen towels and potholders for us and Giants panda pillow for each of the animals for housewarming gifts! A big thank you for all this Chick.

Day 157 - Lisa

My babies are growing up so fast!

Day 157 - Sis

Sure wish we could recycle and make some money from all the cardboard boxes being broken down.  I feel guilty when I look out the window and the trees seem to be frowning!

Day 156 - Lisa

One full and one filled a quarter of the way is what it took to move us into our home.  Now we have to unpack.  My mom and I spent our first two nights laying in our beds moaning and groaning from the pain  of sorting and putting everything away.  We are not even close to being finished.  I think I'm going to need knee replacement after all this.  I sense a huge yard sale in the future.

Day 156 - Sis

Hey today I found, stuck in the back of the dresser drawer, the missing partner to one earring!  These were bought to wear to an 85th birthday celebration of a family favorite, cool guy, Joe Bravo.  His daughters threw a great party and when I wear them it will remind me of that happy gathering.

Day 155 - Lisa

By Monday, things were back to normal for sunii, the Warrior Kitty!  Different scenario, same cat.

Day 155 - Sis

With much relief today, during unpacking, I found him and some of his belongings.  He's here with me, until I'm there with him.  Met when I was 15 and he was 16, married at 18 and 19.  Our marriage lasted three months short of 42 years.  Really missed his presence during this whole process of house buying and moving in.  He would have loved hanging with all the workmen and putting in his ideas about the various projects.

Day 154 - Lisa

oneeya was excited to show sunii around the house.  This highly annoyed sunii.  For the first 24 hours you couldn't get near her without her hissing and spitting at us.  She eventually calmed down.  By Sunday night they were exhausted from exploring the house and going up and down the stairs.  Poor babies.  Big changes for them and us.

Day 154- Sis

First morning, out of bed, short walk to the upstairs landing where I could enjoy the view of the backyard.  Now for that first cup of morning coffee. AHHH!

Day 153 - Lisa

As we were clearing out our storage these buttons fell out of a box.  The Disneyland Hotel button is from the first time I stayed there.  Back then they put your luggage and you in a golf cart and drove you to your tower.  You got this button to wear in the park to receive special things and to ride the shuttle.  Those were the days.  The other button "must" be from my early 20's.  LOL

Day 153 - Sis

We had a five guy moving crew and man did they work!  Hope the signs helped them a bit while hauling furniture and boxes upstairs. That evening sunii was driven from her old apartment to her new home.  She probably thought she was going to the vet and pretty much registered the same reaction, look at those eyes. We just backed away and left her alone. ;-

Day 152 - Lisa

Received some mugwort and Monterey sage in the mail today from a good friend its to bless the house.  Smells so good.  Makes me miss the roundhouse and all my California Indian friends & family a whole bunch.

Day 152 - Sis

Might say we will have, as John Mayall sang, "room to move!"

Day 151 - Lisa

I guess the kitty thinks she can break all the rules being she's only got two more nights at the apartment!

Day 151 - Sis

Like the way oneeya"s coat color goes with the new flooring. I was worried I'd have to give her up and find a dog with a more matching blend.  I mean, after all, the flooring is more expensive than the dog! And all she's thinking is, "Do you really have to bring the cat here?"

Day 150 - Lisa

And today my bunnies are back!  LOL

Day 150 - Sis

Things were winding down at the apartment, couple days more and we will be in a home again.  In the middle of all the packing and such, sunii starts to take inventory.

Day 149 - Sis

I have read about them, heard stories about them, seen them in movie scenes but have never witnessed them myself. Fireflies or lightning bugs, whichever you prefer, are apparently living right here in the apartment complex!  I'm thrilled that I finally witness this beetle flying around tonight. My dog and I were out for her last walk of the day and in a quiet corner of the grounds when something flashed in my peripheral view, more like a blink of light and then another. My first thought at my age, STROKE!  My second thought, Tinkerbell, you're kidding. No I'm kidding. I whip out my phone, set it for camera and wait to snap the blink/flash, nothing. Just my luck, those flying beetles with tail lights had vanished or their batteries were low.

Day 149 - Lisa

I ate on the floor tonight.  We forgot in our haste to get things packed and moved that the card table was also our only dining table.  Gee the chairs look a tad lonely, I salute you folding chairs.  You held up well for taking such a temporary job.

Day 148 - Lisa

Look who else showed up for a visit this week at work.  We used to have 3 turtles, now I only see this guy every once in the while.  He falls off the curb and gets stuck in the gutter.  Hey, I know some humans like that.  Thankfully, we have big leather gloves.  I try to pick him up and put him back on the right path. Hey I've done that a few times with humans too.  LMAO!

Day 148 - Sis

It's starting to feel real after emptying a couple of kitchen cupboards, removing the magnets and family pictures off the fridge. Don't even want to think about Saturday when the movers start bringing all the belongings we have from storage!

Day 147 - Lisa

Friday my Goose-Family came to see me.  It was a typical gathering just like my family.  Plan a small gathering, word gets out and pretty soon you have 50+ people camping in your living room, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms for a sleepover.

Day 147 - Sis

Even though I've never been a huge fan of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, I did want to see this play. It has had rave reviews and a few family members also have said they loved it. It was an interesting story and in part, a telling one about Frankie Valli as a guy with honor when it came to family or friends. The other three guys stories were also interesting.  The set design, lighting etc. were all good. I had a slight headache when the play started and a screaming one when it ended. Falsetto voices can be a great sound in some do wop types of songs, but in the Four Seasons case. it was extremely painful and overkill for me. When they sang "Rag Doll" thought my head was going to explode! For the others in the audience it was a happening. I mean, even that was little weird watching all these people my age, OLD, reliving their youth. I guess. My daughter, who attended with me, was just as bewildered as I was.
